ASSOCIATIONS* Doug Bentz, chief executive officer of Roane General Hospital, Spencer, has been elected 2012-2013 chairman of the West Virginia Hospital Association. Also elected: Mike King, president and chief executive officer of Camden Clark Medical Center, Parkersburg, chairman-elect; Sue Johnson-Phillippe, president and chief executive officer of St. Joseph's Hospital, Buckhannon, treasurer; and Joseph Letnaunchyn, president and chief executive officer of the association, secretary. David Ramsey, president and chief executive officer of CAMC Health System, Charleston, is the immediate past chairman. The association represents 65 acute care and specialty hospitals and health systems in the state.Jeff Branham of New River Trucking, Scott Depot, has been elected 2012-2013 chairman of the West Virginia Trucking Association. Also elected: Mike Smith of Appalachian Tire Products Inc., Williamson, first vice chairman; Daniel Harmon of Con-Way Freight, Belle, second vice chairman; and Bernie Young of Trucks Inc., Charleston, secretary-treasurer. Jan Vineyard continues to serve as president.FINANCEn James "Jamie" O'Connor of Merrill Lynch's Charleston office has earned the "Certified Financial Planner" certification awarded by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards.
HEALTH CARE* Patty Marino Deutsch has been named program director of The Problem Gamblers Help Network. The network manages the 1 800-GAMBLER helpline, which provides free treatment for problem gamblers and their families. First Choice Health Systems Inc. operates the network. Deutsch succeeds Michele Gordon, who accepted another position at First Choice Health. Deutsch is a licensed professional counselor. She formerly was tobacco policy director for the West Virginia Wellness Council.LAW* Jay Potter has joined Bailey & Wyant as "Of Counsel" to the firm's Charleston office. He will focus his practice on environmental law, toxic tort, products liability and medical negligence matters. Potter is a former U.S. Navy line officer.
