Ground broken on Marshall indoor athletic facility
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Greenbrier resort owner Jim Justice has donated $5 million toward the construction of Marshall University's indoor athletic facility.
Marshall announced the donation during a groundbreaking ceremony for the project Friday in Huntington.
Previously, the gift had been attributed to an anonymous donor.
Justice says the indoor facility will be "a source of great pride" to Marshall alumni. Justice was a member of Marshall's golf team from 1972-74.
Marshall's athletic department is trying to raise $20 million in private funds for the facility. Currently, $15 million has been raised.
The facility will house a 120-yard turf field, a 300-meter track, a Hall of Fame, an academic center and a sports medicine research center. Construction is expected to start within two months.
