The 7th annual Collis P. Huntington Model Train Show takes place Friday through Sunday at the Dunbar Community Center. It features several operating model railroad layouts, collections of railroad memorabilia and the exhibit "Riding the Rails Connecting West Virginia," as well as more than 100 merchandise tables.Hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Jim Donovan, one of the founding members of the jam band Rusted Root, presents a Rhythm Revival Drumming Retreat on Saturday at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 520 Kanawha Blvd. W. The clinic runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., divided into two sessions with a break for lunch.It is for drummers of all skill levels ages 16 and up. Drums are provided, but space is limited. .Opera Guild auditions
The Charleston Light Opera Guild will hold auditions for its June production of the Tony-winning rock musical "Next to Normal" at 11 a.m. Saturday at its theater, 411 Tennessee Ave.Auditioners should have a musical selection prepared, with sheet music for the accompanist. Scripts for readings will be provided.The production, about a family coping with mental illness, has roles available for two women and four men. "West Side Story" is the featured movie in Park Place Cinemas' Flashback Film Series this week. The classic musical won 10 Oscars: Best Picture, Director (shared between Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins), Supporting Actor and Actress (George Chakiris and Rita Moreno), Art Direction Cinematography, Costume Design, Film Editing, Musical Score and Sound. The only category for which it was nominated and didn't win was Best Adapted Screenplay.

.Dolly Withrow talk
At 11:30 a.m. Monday, humorist Dolly Withrow will speak as part of a visiting writers series at the Hansford Senior Center, 500 Washington St., St. Albans. Withrow has written five books and is a former columnist for the Charleston Daily Mail and The State Journal. She taught English at West Virginia State University for 16 years and also taught at the summer writing festival put on by the University of Iowa's Writers' Workshop. The Kanawha County Public Library is sponsoring a Pets Caught Reading photo contest in April. Take pictures of your pet posed with a book and submit them at any KCPL library during April or email them to firstname.lastname@example.org
. Online voting will be held May 2-16 on the library's website with winners announced May 17.Categories are child, teen and adult. Entries must include your full name, entry category, branch library, phone number and pet's name as well as a signed release form granting permission to post your photo on the website. Winners in each category will receive a READ poster made from their entry.
