WVU-MU art openingThe Clay Center opens "Gallery Divided: A Head-to-Head Matchup between Marshall and WVU Art Faculty" with a free public reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday. The exhibit features works in a variety of media by five artists from each school. Call 304-561-3570 or visit derby scrimmageThe second annual Clash in the Coalfields begins at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Madison Civic Center in Boone County. The multi-team roller-derby scrimmage splits 64 skaters from regional teams into four event-specific ones -- the Hatfields, McCoys, Pinkerton Guards and Baldwin-Felts Agents -- which will battle each other in three half-hour periods.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Part of the proceeds will go to the Ancient Mystic Order of Samaritans, which will use them to support Camp Kno-Koma, a juvenile diabetes camp. Email Dan Band concertOn Aug. 16, Gary Sinise and his Lt. Dan Band will perform at Marietta College in a benefit for U.S. Army Spc. Kyle Hockenberry, a triple amputee wounded in Afghanistan. All proceeds go to building a smart home for Hockenberry.Smart homes are custom-designed houses that address the specific needs of severely wounded veterans, helping give them the capability to live more independent lives.The concert, presented by The Gary Sinise Foundation and The Tunnels for Towers Foundation, begins at 7 p.m. in school's rec center.
