CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Summer is the perfect time for people to be adventurous, and a great way to be adventurous is to go to an amusement park. Two of the best amusement parks in our area are located in Ohio: Cedar Point in Sandusky and Kings Island in Mason, near Cincinnati. Both parks are owned by the same company, Cedar Fair, so they have many similarities, such as a Snoopy theme and Fast Lane passes, which, for an extra charge, allow riders to skip long lines for rides. However, there are many differences between these two parks.Cedar Point is the roller coaster capital of the world. It is filled with all different kinds of roller coasters, from the legendary Millennium Force to the newest coaster, GateKeeper. You can go upside town, ride standing up and even go 420 feet high in less than 10 seconds! However, the thrill and popularity of this park leads to a large amount of people; the lines are typically no less than an hour. For roller coaster enthusiasts who won't mind waiting, though, Cedar Point is the perfect place for thrill seekers!I am not much of a thrill-seeker myself; I like to ride the family-friendly rides and eat overpriced ice cream at amusement parks. For those like me, who either are not up for roller coasters or have someone in their family that is a scaredy cat, Kings Island is the better choice. Don't get me wrong; there are plenty of thrills at this park. For instance, there is an indoor roller coaster, Flight of Fear, which is perfect for those who will not ride something after looking at its twists and turns. However, there are just lots of other things to do that do not involve getting strapped in to a metal car and zooming off at ridiculous speeds. Kings Island is a more family-friendly park, with lots of carnival games and a whole section of the park devoted to Charlie Brown and his gang. The lines at Kings Island are significantly shorter than those of Cedar Point. If you only have one day to spend at a park, I would recommend going to Kings Island.Pricewise, these two parks are about the same. Cedar Point is $44.99 for a one-day adult pass, while Kings Island is $37.99. However, Sandusky is farther away than Mason, so with gas prices included, the difference is much greater. In my opinion, Kings Island is the better amusement park, with its wider variety of activities, lower price and shorter distance. But wherever your thrill-seeking travels take you this summer, there is one thing you can always find -- FUN!
