'Oz' outdoor screening

By Staff reports

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The University of Charleston's riverfront lawn will be the place to depart for the land of Oz this Saturday night when the school hosts a free outdoor showing of the 2013 Disney film "Oz the Great and Powerful," beginning at 9 p.m. Bring blankets and lawn chairs to view the film on a big screen with drinks and snacks available for purchase.

The event is part of the Charleston Convention & Visitors Bureau's "Gateway to the Jamboree" initiative, welcoming visitors attending the Boy Scouts of America National Scout Jamboree.

The film stars James Franco as a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, who is hurled from dusty Kansas to the colorful Land of Oz. Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams also star.

Call 304-344-5075 or visit for more on all the activities.
