CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Additional auditions are being held for the upcoming play "Battered but not Broken" from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Kanawha Players Theater, 309 Beauregard St.

Cindy Wilson of Charleston, who wrote the play, said the search is at the request of Shelly Garrett, who has agreed to direct and manage the production. "This is really big," she said.

Shelly Garrett Entertainment is the producer of numerous stage plays, including "Beauty Shop," which has inspired three films: Vivica A. Fox's "The Salon," Mo'Nique's "Hair Show" and Queen Latifah's "Beauty Shop."

Parts are available for ages 6 to 60. Actors should bring a headshot, resume and music to the auditions, which will be videotaped for Garrett to review.

Wilson, who is CEO of Milky Way Productions, is dedicating the play about domestic violence to her niece, Na'lisha Gravely, and another Kanawha County woman, Starlena Pratt, both victims of brutal domestic violence. She plans to begin rehearsals in April and stage the first performances June 21-23.
