Lewisburg Literary festivalLEWISBURG, W.Va. -- The Lewisburg Literary Festival kicks off on the monthly First Fridays After Five at 5 p.m. Aug. 3 in downtown Lewisburg.The free events include a meet-and-greet with authors at The Literary Town Square, an Edgar Allan Poe reading in the Old Stone Cemetery, and a unique interactive Literary Art Walk through town, a poetry jam and famous author face-painted moustaches.At the City Greenspace, acoustic guitarist and singer Jim Snyder will perform easy listening, folk and pop tunes until 9 p.m.Impromptu performances will be given by No Pants Players throughout downtown.Several shops will have special literary events. The Darling Exchange will have book exchange of used children's books and First National Bank will give away a book for children ages 3 to 5. At Wolf Creek Gallery, there will be face-painted moustaches based on those of famous authors like Poe and Whitman.Beginning at 9:30 p.m., poets will perform at The Irish Pub in a poetry jam.For more information about the festival call 800-833-2068 or visit Accordion FestivalFAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Accordion Festival, featuring accordionists from six states, will take place at 7 p.m. Sept. 15 in the auditorium of East Fairmont High School, 1993 Airport Road.Featured artists will include five-time national champion William Cosby; People's Choice award winner Hannah Jane; and world champion Cory Pesaturo. Other artists include Mike Takash, of Fairmont, and the East Fairmont High School drum line.Admission is $10 for adults, free for those 18 and younger.Inn earns top designation
MARSHALL, Mich. -- Select Registry has added Hillbrook Inn, a bed and breakfast in Charles Town, W.Va., to its portfolio of celebrated inns."Of the 20,000 inns in North America, only 330 have earned this prestigious designation," said Select Registry Executive Director Will Carlson.
Hillbrook Inn is a European-style country inn surrounded by streams, ponds and gardens on property once owned by George Washington. The inn contains six guestrooms in the main house and four cottage suites; there is a restaurant, tavern and spa.Two other Select Registry inns in West Virginia are North Fork Mountain Inn, in Cabins, and Thomas Shepherd Inn, in Shepherdstown.For the locations of other Select Registry inns in North America, visit jazz weekendWESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia jazz musicians will be showcased in a series of performances Aug. 23-25 at several venues in Weston and nearby Stonewall Resort.Sets at 6, 7 and 8 p.m. will be performed on Aug. 23 at three downtown venues.
On Aug. 24, free classes and lectures are scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A free 5 p.m. concert will take place on the patio at Stonewall, followed by dinner and jazz performances in the resort ballroom at a price of $55.Lectures on the history of jazz and master classes are set for the morning on Aug. 25 at Stonewall.Some of the performers for the Summer Jazz Weekend are the Jenny Wilson Trio, Seth Maynard Trio, Adam Loudin Quintet, Chuck Redd, Rachel Franks, Will Scruggs and C.C.
