CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The 2012 Taste of Home Cooking School comes to the Charleston Civic Center Little Theater at 2 p.m. Sept. 15. Advance reserved seating tickets are required. Tickets are $18 and may be purchased at the Civic Center Box Office or at Ticketmaster.com.
Tickets also include entrance to the West Virginia Food Fest, held from 10 am to 5 p.m at the Civic Center. Vendors from across the state will provide samples of food, beverages and other specialty items.
VIP $40 tickets also available for prime seating locations, a meet & greet session with culinary specialist Michael Barna, cookbook and embroidered apron.
Men Who Cook
The West Virginia Institute for Spirituality presents "Men Who Cook" from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 31 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 305 E. St. in South Charleston. The event features tastes of food prepared by men, including Gazette reporter Rick Steelhammer. Tickets are $20 per person, or $35 per couple. Putnam Farmer's Market presents an international flavor this week, with fresh ingredients for many ethnic dishes. Vendors will have locally produced and grown herbs, tomatoes, corn, beans, cucumbers, zucchini, squash, cabbage, pepper, eggplant, onions, beef, pork, eggs, breads, jellies and jams, fruit and honey.
Putnam Farmers' Market in Hurricane City Park is open from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and from 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturdays.
Mystery Dinner Theater
Murder mystery troupe Murder and Merriment presents interactive murder mystery dinner theatre, "Another Fistful of Bullets!" at 7 p.m. Aug. 17 and 18 at The Greenhouse of Teays Valley. Tickets are $40 per guest.
The Greenhouse also offers a five-course wine-paired dinner at 7 p.m. Aug. 24 and 25. Courses include appetizer, salad, fish, beef and dessert for a cost of $44 per person.
