LOGAN, W.Va. -- Two free Labor Day weekend concerts will be performed Sept. 1 and 2 at the Liz Spurlock Amphitheater in the Park at Chief Logan State Park.Roger Bryant, the grandson of West Virginia folk legend Virginia Myrtle "Aunt Jennie" Wilson, will serve as emcee for the eighth annual Aunt Jennie Music Festival. He will open the 4 to 10 p.m. Sept. 1 concert, also featuring Cora and Fred Hairston, Glen Simpson, Jack and Dave Morris, Elaine Purkey, Jeff Ellis and the Daddy Rabbit Band.For the concert from 1 to 6 p.m. Sept. 2, performers include gospel groups The Seekers and the Stewart Family, The Earl of Elkview, Buddy Griffin with Retro and Smiling, Robert Shafer and the Pour House Band, The Samples Brothers and the Street Players.

It features changing exhibits and displays of artwork and historical items from the collections of the West Virginia State Museum and the State Archives. One area of the museum is dedicated to local and regional history. It is operated and maintained by the West Virginia Division of Culture and History and is four miles north of Logan on W.Va. POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. -- Point Pleasant celebrates its rivers Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 with music, towboat tours, games and a sternwheel boat parade.Bluegrass band Smith and Company will perform at 8 p.m. Aug. 31 at Point Pleasant Riverfront Park.On Sept. 1, the free activities start at 9 a.m. with towboat tours and the pilothouse simulator in the River Museum. BEVERLY, W.Va. -- Musicians Doug Van Gundy and Paul Gartner will perform together as Born Old at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 1 at the Beverly Heritage Center.The two, who have been playing traditional old-time music together since 1997, have taught at the Augusta Heritage Center and Allegheny Echoes workshops.

MARLINTON, W.Va. -- The Black Mountain Bluegrass Boys will return to the Pocahontas Opera House for a 7:30 p.m. Sept. 1 show.The band organized in 1968, taking their name from Black Mountain in their native Pocahontas County. For five years the group worked a weekly radio show on WVAR, in Richwood. They also made regular appearances at local events and regional bluegrass festivals.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $8. Children 12 and under are admitted free of charge. Tickets are available in advance at pocahontasoperahouse.org and at the Green Bank and Marlinton galleries of the Pocahontas County Artisans Cooperative.

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- The eighth annual concert for the benefit of the Shepherdstown Battlefield Preservation Association Inc. will begin at 8 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Train Station at Shepherdstown.Don Oehser and Todd Coyle will provide the entertainment. A $10 donation is requested at the door. There will be free food, adult beverages for a small donation and soft drinks.
