There is style all around every weekend in Charleston, but some weekends are a bit more glamorous than usual.February 23 and 24 were two days of back-to-back fashion trends and fabulous personal flair. The Cache boutique showcased long gowns for formal occasions via its prom fashion show at Charleston Town Center Mall on Feb. 23, and the West Virginia Symphony League hosted an afternoon casting call on Feb. 24 for models to strut the catwalk at its annual style show in May. The day wrapped with a Hollywood-themed fundraising event for Children's Therapy Clinic. The fashion show and modeling auditions were both live tweeted for The Charleston Gazette by Sarah Francke and Jen Wood Cunningham using the hash tag #WVstyleteam.
Sarah characterized the audition as "a crowd of spirited, confident and fashionable women." She noted that several models chose to pull their hair back off their faces into a dramatic high ponytail or tight bun, which "radiated the girls' fierce confidence and it also forced your attention to notice every other part of their ensemble." Skinny jeans and high heels were "everywhere."Jen focused on trends like bright-colored accessories and feminine floral prints, as well as neutrals and leather. "Metallic accents were hot with attendees rocking studded shirts, sequin hats, and gold bangles. Women didn't shy away from the theme Girl on Fire, because red and orange in many varying shades made a strong showing at the casting call."
The style show's theme this year focuses on more than pretty faces and exciting fashion trends. Event organizers told Jen that the Girl on Fire concept is an opportunity for the West Virginia Symphony League to showcase women in the community who are making a difference by "fueling the flames of progress" with their own fiery approach to life. "The diversity was refreshing and the thought put towards fashion was inspiring," said Sarah.  "Being surrounded by so many lively and talented women made me want to go home and get creative with everything in my closet. I noticed that small things make big, fashion-forward differences to everyday outfits, such as a brightly-colored belt or piece of jewelry. I'm also excited to pick up quick tricks and new trends from the runway as these women will soon model for West Virginia's most popular fashion shops and designers." Women chosen as models for the 2013 style show were Amber Beil, Jacqueline Bevan, Carrie Bowe, Krista Brogan, Sandy Call, Beverly Campbell, Sousana Collias, Jen Wood Cunningham, Abbi Dameron, Montana Dawson, Caroline Dorey, Kathleen DuBois, Amelia Edmondson, Tiffany Ellis, Katherine Faulkaier, Amy Goins, Rebekah Hehnichen, Hannah Johnson, Laura Jordan, Rudy Kidder, Marissa Lofitis, Courtney Masinter, Taikara Millner, Lelia Patel, Mary Catherine Platz, Taylor Powell, Suzette Raines, Jessica Ralston, Kristi Silkwood, Frannie Slotnick, Tuesday Taylor, Shakela Tunstale, Diana Vorhees, TishWeisbeirg, Christie Werkman, Yolanda Tam, Helen Lodge, Carrie Fleshman, Lindsey Goodman and Judy Wellington.
