Junior League cocktailsCHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Junior League of Charleston is holding its 10th annual Building Community Over Cocktails event from 6 to 9 p.m. May 2 at 405 Capitol St.The evening will feature hors d'oeuvres, cocktails, boutique-style shopping (jewelry, accessories, home goods, handbags), a raffle and silent auctions. The evening is an opportunity to meet Junior League members and the nonprofit agencies they partner with.Tickets are $25. VIP "early shopper" tickets are $30. ALBANS, W.Va. -- A toll of either nonperishable food or money will be charged from noon to 3 p.m. May 4 to cross the St. Albans Bridge over the Coal River.
The food and money will go to St. Mark's Episcopal Church for its Christ's Kitchen and Community Food Pantry.The event is put on by Chapter 2190 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. The original bridge was a covered toll bridge built in 1832. Those who make donations will receive a copy of the history of the bridge.Donations also may be made in the Loop parking lot, across from the post office, or call Jim Meddings at 304-722-2908 to have donations picked up.Benefit for mission tripWINFIELD, W.Va. -- A rain or shine yard sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 4 at Winfield United Methodist Church, 20 Radwin Drive (behind McDonald's). Concessions will be available. Proceeds will benefit a mission trip to Monjas, Guatemala, in June.Run for schoolST. ALBANS, W.Va. -- St. Francis of Assisi School is sponsoring the Bill Oxley Memorial 5K Run/3K Walk, beginning at 8 a.m. May 18. The race will begin and end at Angela's on the River Restaurant, at the Loop in St. Albans.
Early-registration fee is $20, and $25 the day of the race. Race-day registration begins at 7 a.m. Checks should be made payable to St. Francis School and mailed to 525 Holley St., St. Albans, WV 25177.
