Trails Day at Stonewall
WESTON, W.Va. -- Stonewall Resort will celebrate the American Hiking Society's National Trails Day with a six-mile hike, starting at 9 a.m. June 1.
Stonewall Resort general manager Mike Hager said participants may walk, run or bike at their leisure in the noncompetitive event. Nature guides will be present to highlight interesting features along the way. Participants are welcome to bring their dogs on a leash.
"Our trail route requires appropriate hiking footwear, and participants should bring any beverages or snacks they need along the way," Hager said. "We will have a vehicle that will follow the course of the trail and can hold extra water or personal belongings."
There will be a $20 registration fee, which will include a moisture-wicking event T-shirt and a donation to the Stonewall State Park Foundation for future trail maintenance.
While participants can register as late as 8:30 a.m. on June 1, those wishing to ensure a correct T-shirt size should sign up by May 15.
Participants will meet at the parking lot at the end of the cottages, a shuttle will then take registered participants to the starting point. For more information, call Samantha Norris at 304-269-8820 or email email@example.com.
ALDERSON, W.Va. -- Alderson celebrates BridgeFest on May 18 with music, a rummage sale, a cardboard boat race at 10 a.m. and a walking tour at 10:30 a.m.
The family fun day starts at 8:30 a.m. with the opening of the Alderson Community Market at the Greenbrier River Interpretive Center, with a new kiosk with an interactive touch-screen computer presenting history of Wolf Creek/Smith Mountain.
From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Alderson Memorial Bridge, local and regional exhibitors will present information about ecology and the Greenbrier River.

West Union Fest 2013
WEST UNION, W.Va. -- West Union Fest will begin at 6 p.m. June 7 with a parade and a barbecue cook-off.
On June 8, a portion of Main Street will be closed for vendors, entertainment and games. Also planned is the Classic Car and Truck show and a petting zoo. Entertainment, contests and games featured all day. For details, visit www.westunionfest.org.
Siege of Fort Randolph
POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. -- The re-enactment of Chief Cornstalk's siege on Fort Randolph in the fall of 1777 will take place at 2 p.m. May 18 in Krodel Park.
Earlier in the day, there will be life skills demonstrations, Indian blanket trade, magistrate court and running of the gantlet. In the evening there will be a fort feast, auction and tavern entertainment. The fort will be open to the public for life skills demonstrations. Pipestem ballroom dancing

LEWISBURG, W.Va. -- Trillium Performing Arts presents "Thursday Night Alive!," a talent showcase, at 7:30 p.m. May 16 at the Lewis Theatre. Admission is $6 for adults, $3 for full-time students and AmeriCorps, and free for ages 6 and under. Live music and dance featured.
At 7:30 p.m. May 18, Grammy Award-winners Mary Chapin Carpenter and Shawn Colvin will perform at Carnegie Hall.
The songwriters and longtime friends will perform their own works as well as some of their favorite songs. Carpenter has sold more than 13 million records and won five Grammys. Colvin is a three-time Grammy-winner and has released 10 albums.
