MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Café Bacchus, in Morgantown, will host Titanic-themed dinners Aug. 16 and 17.The dinners mark the birth month of Lucian Smith, who once lived in the High Street house that now contains Café Bacchus. Smith and his bride were returning from their honeymoon when the RMS Titanic struck an iceberg and sank in April 1912. New River Trail Run
OAK HILL, W.Va. -- Organizers of the 2013 New River Gorge-ous Trail Run have moved the 12th annual race to Aug. 24 from late October in hopes it will boost late-summer travel in the New River Gorge region.The three race options -- half-marathon, 7.8-mile run and 5-mile walk -- are hosted by ACE Adventure Resort. The new schedule will allow racers and their guests to combine the event with rafting and other warm-weather adventures.
Free camping in the resort's 40-acre campground will be provided to participants who choose to rough it through the weekend.According to race organizer Beth Gill, $2,500 in cash and prizes will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place winners for men and women in the long and short courses. The shorter run course navigates the highlands above ACE Lake; the half-marathon course circles much of the resort's 1,500-acre property.A complimentary burrito buffet lunch will be served following the race.
Registration for the race will take place from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Aug. 24 at the resort. The races begin at 10 a.m. The registration fees are $30 for the long course, $20 for the short course, and $15 for the walk; same-day registration will cost an additional $5.Participants are encouraged to preregister online at www.aceraft.com/trail
