The store is in the Nitro Marketplace, next to Game Stop, Sweet Frog and Walmart.Men's shelter needs items The men's shelter Crossroads needs the following items:Eggs, 35-gallon trash bags, laundry detergent, steel wool, Pine Sol, paper towels, tri-fold paper towels and food handler gloves.Items can be taken anytime between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. to Crossroads Men's Shelter, 503 Leon Sullivan Way.The Greenbrier gift drive WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS -- The Greenbrier announced plans this week for its third annual "Create a Dream Tree for Kids" holiday gift drive, which has donated more than $2 million in toys and clothes to local and national charities.The resort's retail team estimates that it will purchase more than 40,000 toys for distribution in this year's drive.
Charitable organizations can register online at before Nov. 1 to request consideration.Greenbrier owner Jim Justice initiated the holiday drive with his own donations to ensure that underprivileged children throughout West Virginia had at least one gift to unwrap on Christmas morning.Greenbrier guests and visitors who want to donate items for the charity drive may buy an item for the "Dream Tree" from Fizzy's Land of Oz at The Greenbrier or give money in the form of cash or a personal check (made payable to "Old White Charities") at the hotel's front desk.Those who wish to help wrap gifts should email and a Greenbrier representative will follow up regarding the available dates, times and locations.All donations must be received by Dec. 8 and all are tax-deductible (receipts will be provided).How to help the homeless
Kanawha County Public Library is holding meetings on how residents can help the growing numbers of people who are homeless in Kanawha County."Without a Home: What You Can Do to Help People Who are Homeless in Your Community" will take place at 6 p.m. Monday<co Sept. 30> at the St. Albans Branch Library and at 6 p.m. Thursday<co Oct. 3> at Elk Valley Branch Library.Panelists from the Covenant House and other community organizations will discuss the homeless and provide specific ways people can help those in their community who are in need. Other participating organizations include Manna Meal, West Virginia Coalition Against Domestic Violence, YWCA, Roark Sullivan Lifeway Center, state Office of Economic Opportunity and the Religious Coalition for Community Renewal.Attendees are asked to bring a donation of toiletry items to be distributed to local shelters.
