CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Molina Medicaid Solutions of West Virginia honored the volunteerism and service of four community heroes at its first Community Champions Awards ceremony Nov. 4 at the Summit Conference Center.
Those honored are Fran Moore, West Virginia Health Right Inc.; Lorraine Burdette and her dog Soot, West Virginia K-9 Search and Rescue Inc.; and Sallie Pat Tackett, West Virginia National Guard State Family Council.
Moore has been a volunteer pharmacy technician with Health Right for 15 years. She volunteers with the organization at least one day a week and on many occasions up to five days a week.
Burdette and Soot have spent countless hours training to be field-team certified, which paid off in 2011 when they were able to locate a lost 78-year-old diabetic man who had gone hunting with his son.
A retired schoolteacher, Tackett has been a volunteer with the West Virginia National Guard family programs for the past 18 years, helping to plan picnics, fundraisers and holiday events.
"The countless hours these volunteers have dedicated to the community is truly admirable," said Ruth Ann Panepinto, executive account director for Molina Medicaid Solutions in West Virginia. "Their efforts have made life-changing differences in the lives of many and inspired us all to do a little more."
Molina awarded each community champion $1,000 to give to a nonprofit group of their choice.
