Slopes open at CanaanDAVIS, W.Va. -- The slopes are now open at the Canaan Valley Resort State Park ski area, as is the new 160-room Canaan Lodge. The resort offers ski school for individuals and groups, including the Canaan Cub Club for ages 5-8 and Mountain Adventure for ages 9-15.Lift operations through Christmas are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Ticket office, ski equipment rentals and ski school hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.The Canaan Valley tubing park is scheduled to open later this month when temperatures permit adequate snowmaking.For more, including to purchase tickets or make reservations, call 304-866-4121 or visit Lake lodge openGRAFTON, W.Va. -- The Tygart Lake State Park Lodge is now open year-round. Holidays at North BendCAIRO, W.Va. -- North Bend State Park will host a Christmas Day buffet and New Year's Eve party.The buffet runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes prime rib, turkey and dressing, pecan-crusted fish, baked ham, salad bar, desserts and drinks for $21.95 for adults and $10.95 for children. Reservations are recommended.The party includes live music and food as well as an optional overnight package. Reservations are required as it generally sells out. Call 304-643-2931.Midland Trail lightsANSTED, W.Va. -- Lights Along the Midland Trail has just the right amount of lights to make things merry and bright at Hawks Nest State Park. Located on U.S. Route 60 at Ansted, more than 30 unique holiday displays are located on the state park grounds.Visitors can drive slowly around the state park property and view the displays. There is no entrance fee. The lights are on from 5:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. each evening through Jan. 1.
