CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A man shot after midnight on Charleston's West Side died this morning, and police have charged another man with murder. After initially being charged with malicious wounding, Donald Troy "Bub" Raines II, 36, of 414 Mary St., was to be re-arrested on first-degree murder charges, said Sgt. Bobby Eggleton of the Charleston Police Department.Raines allegedly told police he shot Jerry Baldwin at about 2:30 a.m. at Raines' home, according to a criminal complaint on file in Kanawha County Magistrate Court. Baldwin was shot multiple times with a 9 mm handgun, the complaint says.Baldwin died about 9:30 a.m. at CAMC General Hospital, Eggleton said.Raines was arraigned on the malicious wounding charge at about 8:45 a.m. and initially freed on $500 cash bond. Magistrate Joe Shelton said there were extenuating circumstances surrounding the case that caused him to set a bond that is lower than usual.Eggleton said Raines told police he feared for his life when he allegedly shot Baldwin, and has been cooperative with police officers. But now that Baldwin has died, Raines will be charged with murder, Eggleton said.
