MOUNT HOPE, W.Va. -- Mount Hope Mayor Michael Martin says the Fayette County town isn't ready to annex a national Boy Scouts of America adventure camp. The Town Council planned to discuss annexing the 10,600-acre Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve at its Tuesday night meeting. The Register-Herald reports that the plan was put on hold because Mount Hope doesn't have a planning commission or a comprehensive plan. Without either of those in place, the town's zoning ordinance isn't legally enforceable.
Martin says a planning commission will be appointed soon. He says the commission will decide how the town develops in relation to the Boy Scouts camp. The camp is scheduled to open in 2013.
