Proposed aircraft cuts could affect W.Va. Guard
Advertiser

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Aircraft cuts proposed by the Air Force could affect West Virginia Air National Guard units in Charleston and Martinsburg.

The Air Force released a "white paper'' Wednesday that indicates 133 mobility aircraft are being considered for elimination, including C-5As and C130s.

Ten C-5As are assigned to the 167th Airlift Wing in Martinsburg and eight C-130s are assigned to the 130th Airlift Wing in Charleston.

Lt. Col. David P. Lester tells The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown, Md., that West Virginia National Guard officials don't know the extent of the cuts. He says every state will be affected in one way or another.

West Virginia Adjutant Gen. Maj. James A Hoyer says the Department of Defense should look at giving the Guard more resources instead of cutting them.
