CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia officials today were trying to make the best of an announcement that Shell chemical had picked a site in Pennsylvania for construction of a multi-billion-dollar natural gas "cracker" plant.

Poor politicians.
We get NONE of the crackers starting up to locate in state....but ALL of them, that we have a shot at, will be within 20 miles of our state borders.
They want our resources. They want our people and their work ethic .... they want absolutely NO PART of our anti-business environment in West Virginia. Locating "close" to WV borders give them access to the two things they want, and no part of what they wish to avoid.
The rest of the "where are we gonna locate" hoopla was and will be merely to get the best tax break possible form PA/OH ... which ever state wins ... in this first case, it was PA.
Quick note ... on forbes "best states for business list"
PA ... ranked 26
OH ... ranked 38
WV ... ranked 43.
Coincidence? I think not.
Well Polly didn't get her cracker in WV! Way to go Govenor Tomblin. I bet Manloney would have done a better job. He is more of a business man and less of a gambler. WV left out again.

Nothing will change until our laws change .... and our laws/tax structure won't change until we vote those who have been in power for the last 80 years(Democrats) out of office.
Democrats OWN this mess, they created it, they have perpetuated it. The few Republican gov's we have had have all been mostly lame ducks because dems have owned both chambers for 80+years.
So no single election would have changed anything ... we need a complete govt change.
These two Burdette and Tomblin would be perfect as rednecks in a movie such as Deliverence. Squealing in the woods.

I blame Raese and Maloney. Their reputations are driving business away from WV.
Although it means nothing to everyone here, inside scope from the oil/gas industry says final decision was heavily based on the state's legal climate (see Mike's stats).
Does the name Arch Moore ring any bells? Cecil Underwood? We're they Democrats?
I see you've mentioned two of our more successful governors?
