Friends of Merry Batt: will have a pancake breakfast fundraiser from 8 to 10 a.m. June 30 at Applebee's. Batt, a Winfield High School Senior, has recently been diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer. He is an active Boy Scout and also active in Adventure Scouts. Tickets will be $5 each. Center for Economic Options: is hosting a series of free marketing seminars and a technology clinic on Wednesday<co June 27> at the Days Inn Conference Center in Flatwoods. The seminars and clinic are focused on reaching small business owners and farmers in Clay, Gilmer, Webster, Calhoun and Braxton counties. The day-long computer clinic will give business owners an opportunity to have their computers and laptops evaluated with simple maintenance and updates performed. Each three-hour seminar will cover the same material, and will be offered at 9 a.m. to noon, 1 to 4 p.m. and 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. As part of the event, the technology experts from Hybridge Communications Management Group of Charleston will be offering a technology clinic from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. A final performance will be held at 2 p.m. on July 22 with no admission charge. Events director is Kelly Elkins and the eighth annual camp sponsored by ACE Adventure Center, is hosted by Tamarack and facilitated by the Treehouse Arts Ensemble. Campers learn all the "how-tos" of theater from building sets and writing scripts to lighting and acting. There are 15 slots remaining in the Tamarack Theatre Camp, scheduled for July 9-19. Cost of the camp is $65, which includes all materials and lunch daily. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
