CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Manna Meal soup kitchen is looking for volunteers to help transport an influx of recent donations from Camp Virgil Tate.West Virginia University Extension Agent John Porter is donating a variety of leftover foods from the camp to the soup kitchen so that it can continue to serve free meals to the local hungry, said Manna Meal Director Jean Simpson."We're not a government-sponsored nonprofit soup kitchen, we rely on individuals and our community to help us," she said. "We're not a large company, and we have no vehicles to transport our food ourselves. Usually, everyone brings us donations, but this case is different."
Simpson needs at least four cars or two trucks at Camp Virgil Tate by Monday at noon in order to receive the donation.Manna Meal serves two meals a day seven days a week all year round at its location at St. John Episcopal Church on Quarrier Street and has fed more than 1.25 million people since it got its start in 1978, according to www.mannameal.com.Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Jean Simpson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
