State agencies to recognize highway volunteers


BECKLEY, W.Va. -- Volunteers who remove litter from West Virginia's highways will be recognized next month at Tamarack in Beckley.The state Departments of Environmental Protection and Transportation have scheduled the Adopt-A-Highway Appreciation Day Picnic for Saturday, Aug. 4. After morning activities and a noon luncheon, volunteers with 10, 15 and 20 years of service will receive lapel pins and a special Adopt-A-Highway safety vest imprinted with their number of years of service.The program's more than 40,000 volunteers annually remove more than 4 million pounds of trash from more than 3,300 miles of state highways.
