Police charge Mercer County woman with producing child pornography

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. -- A Mercer County woman was arrested last week after pawning a laptop containing multiple images of child pornography that she produced, a prosecutor said.Kimberly Ann Cox, 36, of Nemours, admitted to producing some of the images when questioned by West Virginia State Police Sgt. M.K. Summers on May 3, according to a criminal complaint filed in Mercer County Magistrate Court. She was arrested Friday and charged with 10 counts of the use of minors in filming sexually explicit conduct.The photos depict explicit photos of a 14-year-old female family member, according to the complaint.
Sometime in late May, Cox allegedly pawned a laptop that contained the images, which were dated from Feb. 12 to April 16 of this year. Mercer County Prosecutor Scott Ash said the storeowner checked the laptop before erasing its hard drive when he discovered the images. He contacted police, who later seized the laptop and the cellphone Cox used to the take the photos, according to the complaint.Ash said police are still investigating who owns the laptop, but it did come from Cox's home. More arrests could be forthcoming, he said."If you don't find this disturbing then something is wrong with the world," Ash said of the case.Cox remains in Southern Regional Jail in lieu of a $200,000 cash-only bail.
