W.Va. DOH to study I-77 stretch after accidents rise

SISSONVILLE, W.Va. -- State highways officials want to know why accidents have increased on a stretch of Interstate 77 in the Sissonville area. Kanawha County sheriff's deputies have responded to more than 20 accidents since April, including one fatality in May. The latest accident occurred last week.
Department of Transportation spokesman Brent Walker said that the agency has noticed the recent spike in accidents. He says a study of the highway could already be under way. The study could determine whether cable barriers should be placed in the median to prevent crossover accidents.
