Paint the town green
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Tickets are still available for Marshall University's 15th annual Paint the Capital City Green rally at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 23 at Charleston Embassy Suites.
Advance-only tickets are $50 and must be purchased by close of business Aug. 16 to be entered into a drawing to win admission and hotel accommodations for two to an away game. MU fans will get to mingle with head football coach Doc Holliday, Athletic Director Mike Hamrick and President Stephen J. Kopp as well as key team members.
Event proceeds benefit the Big Green Scholarship Foundation and the Marshall University Alumni Association.
Used books fundraiser
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- "Macy's Presents Hilltop: Books Only," a major fundraiser for the Huntington Museum of Art, will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 18 and noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 19.
Volunteers and museum staff members sort and arrange the used books by categories for two weeks prior to the sale, which includes children's books, mysteries, romances, textbooks, art books and a smaller number of used videos and records.
Donations of used books will be accepted until the day before the sale. Books can be dropped off at the museum's loading dock. If you have a large number of books, you can arrange for someone to come and collect them by calling 304-529-2701.
Admission to the book sale is $5 on Aug. 18 and free Aug. 19, courtesy of Macy's. Huntington Museum of Art is at 2033 McCoy Road, Huntington.
