By Staff reports
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Union officials addressed rumors about the strike at Ravenswood's Constellium plant during an informational meeting Monday night.More than 400 people attended the union members meeting in Ravenswood, Randy Moore, subdistrict director for the United Steelworkers in West Virginia."People hear all kinds of rumors," Moore said in a phone interview following the meeting. "People start rumors. It was just a meeting to address members' concerns and give the membership an opportunity to ask questions and for us to try to answer to the best of our ability."Around 700 production and maintenance workers at Constellium went on strike Aug. 5 after talks broke down about a new five-year contract. Union workers went on strike over concerns about changes to the workers' health insurance, Moore said.
Union officials assured workers that they have a proposal on the table and they stand ready to meet with company officials at any time, Moore said.Moore said some of the rumors that were being told were "almost too ludicrous to even talk about.""I was very well pleased with attendance and participation," Moore said of the meeting. "I'm very proud of them."
