Streets to be closed Sunday for trooper's funeral service

Funeral is Sunday for slain trooper CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Drivers in Charleston can expect heavy traffic and street closures Sunday during the memorial service for West Virginia State Police Cpl. Marshall Bailey, who was shot and killed Tuesday evening.
Clendenin Street between Lee and Quarrier streets will be closed beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday, said Charleston police Capt. Jerry Hill.Bailey's service will take place at 2 p.m. at the Charleston Civic Center. Attendees can park for free at the center or can pay to park at the Charleston Town Center Mall, Hill said.A funeral procession will follow the service as the hearse drives to a cemetery in Poca. Police will close Quarrier Street and part of Pennsylvania Avenue while the procession drives onto the westbound lanes of Interstate 64, Hill said. Traffic on the interstate will be slowed or stopped to allow the procession safe passage.Drivers will experience heavy traffic beginning at about 12:30 p.m., he said. About 22 Charleston officers are assigned to direct traffic downtown. Kanawha County sheriff's deputies and Nitro police officers also will assist in directing traffic.
