South Charleston approves new playground

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- At a meeting Thursday, South Charleston City Council members approved the construction of a new playground at the park on Second Avenue.South Charleston Mayor Frank Mullens said that the city put up $8,500 for the new 2500-square-foot playground. A corporate sponsor, through the national non-profit organization KaBoom, which helps cities design and build new playgrounds, will provide the additional $85,000.On Oct. 20, about 200 volunteers will build and finish the new playground on the same day, Mullens said. The area will more or less look like a traditional playground, but it will also include exercise features for adults, he said.
