CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Grow Project, a locally founded organization that aims to bolster infrastructure and build health clinics for Haitians, is holding a fundraiser in Lewisburg.Native West Virginian Meike Schleiff founded The Grow Project, Inc. in 2010 with the "dream of a world where people can take care of themselves and what is around them."Currently, the organization has helped start a school in Bonnay Dugal, has opened a sister organization in Cap Haitien and has helped bring in numerous partners and mentors in Haiti with various clean water initiatives and a cholera and primary care clinic in Soufriere.New funding will be used to help complete a permanent clinic at Soufriere; scholarships for some primary school students; small amounts of venture capitol for groups of budding entrepreneurs in Haiti and an enclosure around the water cistern to keep animals and children from interfering with the pipes and equipment.
The fundraiser is from 6:30 - 8 p.m. September 13 at the General Lewis Inn in Lewisburg. The event will include music by the Dueling Fiddlers, wine and refreshments, a silent auction and a special guest speaker. Tickets are $1 online at www.thegrowprojec.org
