CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Boys Night Out, an annual tailgating fundraiser, is set for the WVU football game at Texas Tech Oct. 13 at McJunkin Redman Field on Hillcrest Drive.Presented by Northside Automotive, the game watching party will raise money to support the YWCA Sojourner's Shelter for Women, Children and Families.The event includes a pig roast, wings, beer and, this year, a raffle to win four tickets to the WVU-Oklahoma home game Nov. 17. The party begins two hours before kickoff.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A benefit concert to raise funds for a place in Kenya will take place at 2 p.m. Sept. 16 at Christ Church United Methodist.Groups performing are the Concert Choir of the Appalachian Children's Chorus, the Martin Luther King Jr. Chorus, the Rev. Ethel Caffie-Austin, Kendalyn McDaniel, liturgical dancer, and nowHere Praise Team.A freewill offering will be collected with all proceeds going directly to the Tumaini Children's Home in Nyeri, Kenya. The home provides food, shelter and schooling for street children and orphaned children in need.
The Presbytery of West Virginia has a longstanding partnership with the Presbytery of Nyeri, which includes sister churches, exchange visits and financial support."Currently ... the 520 children at the two locations of the Tumaini Children's Home are in desperate need of assistance as the result of five years of drought and a civil war. Staff at the homes has been reduced because of these conditions and older children are now caring for younger children," according to Presbytery news release.Antiques show and sale
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Pilot Club of Huntington will present the 60th Annual Antiques Show and Sale Sept. 28-30 at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena Conference Center.
The show's grand opening is at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 28 with hors d'oeuvres, a wine tasting by Julian's Market and other beverages, entertainment and a silent auction.Mark Bailey will conduct a show tour at 9 a.m. before the 10 a.m. opening Sept. 29. Bailey is a professional appraiser and owner of Mark's Antiques. The tour costs $10 and includes admission on Sept. 29 and 30.
Tickets for the grand opening are $25 and include admission for all three days. General admission is $6 a day. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 29 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 30.The antiques show is a fundraising event for the Pilot Club, a service club that helps a variety of charities in the Huntington area.Gala honors Ratrie family

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- UnitedHealthcare and Youth Service America are inviting schools and other community-based nonprofit groups in West Virginia to apply for UnitedHealth HEROES grants.UnitedHealth HEROES is a wellness initiative that encourages young people, working with educators and youth leaders, to start walking, running or hiking programs to fight childhood obesity.Grants of up to $1,000 will be awarded to youth-led programs that include both an activity element, in which kids count the number of steps they take, and a service component that increases awareness, provides direct service, enables advocacy on behalf of a cause, or features youth philanthropy around the issue of childhood obesity.To learn more about the UnitedHealth HEROES program and to apply for a grant, visit www.YSA.org/HEROES
