CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The annual Charleston Veterans Day Parade will be held Saturday, Nov. 10, starting at 10 a.m., followed by a ceremony at about 11 a.m., parade leaders announced.The event will be held a day early this year because Nov. 11, the traditional Veterans Day, falls on a Sunday. The parade organizer, Ed Converse of John Brawley Post No. 20 of the American Legion, said state and local officials agreed to change the date to give more people a chance to participate and show their support for veterans.
Also this year, Charleston is one of 62 sites across the country designated by the Veterans Day National Committee as model community events for honoring veterans.In a letter to Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki said he asked the Department of Defense to assign military liaison officers to work with local organizers.
