SPENCER, W.Va. -- Organizers of the Black Walnut Festival in Spencer want to honor West Virginia police officers at this year's event.In honor of State Police Cpl. Marshall Bailey and Trooper Eric Workman, who were killed in a shooting along Interstate 79 last month, and Roane County Sheriff's Deputy John Westfall, who was wounded in the incident, festival officials are inviting each West Virginia police department to send a car and an officer to participate in the parade. A ceremony honoring all police will take place during the parade.The parade begins at noon on Oct. 13, and the lineup will be set by 11:30 a.m. along U.S. 119 on the south end of Spencer. About a dozen departments have already said they will participate, festival organizers said.
