Angel Tree Program accepting applications

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Salvation Army of Charleston will accept applications for the Angel Tree Program for the next two weeks.The Salvation Army's Angel Tree program ensures that as many children as possible receive gifts on Christmas. A large tree, which has been at the Charleston Town Center mall, has hundreds of angels hanging from it. Each represents a child in need.Kanawha County residents can sign up from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily this week at the Salvation Army, 301 Tennessee Ave. Signup for Kanawha County residents ends Oct. 5.
Putnam County residents can sign up Monday through Friday next week, Oct. 15-19, at the Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene, 3937 Teays Valley Road in Teays.Applicants need to bring a personal photo ID, proof of all dependents, birth certificate or medical card for all family members, and current Food Stamp Approval Letter or proof of income and expenses. Applicants also should bring three toy choices for each child, with a $25 limit.Newborns through children age 12 are eligible for the Angel Tree Program with an approved application.For more information, call Maj.
