Charleston woman allegedly beaten, robbed in Winfield
WINFIELD -- A Charleston woman was beat up and robbed by her friend in Winfield after refusing to let her borrow money, according to police.
Rebecca Ann Gibson, 30, of Winfield, was arrested Monday and charged with battery, armed robbery and destruction of property, according to a criminal complaint filed in Putnam County Magistrate Court.
Andrea Harris, of Charleston, had gone to visit Gibson around 10:30 a.m. Monday, according to the complaint. After Harris would not let Gibson borrow money, Gibson allegedly punched Harris in the ear and jaw, causing her to fall back onto a mattress on the floor.
Gibson continued punching and started kicking Harris until she fell into a bedroom closet, according to the complaint.
Winfield Police Chief John Perrine wrote that Harris begged her friend to let her leave, but Gibson continued attacking her and finally stopped after reaching into Harris' pocket and taking $167 and her cell phone.
Harris left the house and went to the Winfield Police Department around 2:30 p.m., according to the complaint.
Perrine said he saw scratches on Harris' back, a deep scratch on her forehead, swelling and discoloration around her eye and cheek, among other injuries.
Gibson was being held on $5,000 bail in the Western Regional Jail.
