U.S. House hopefuls in W.Va. amass another $1.1 million

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia's U.S. House incumbents outraised and outspent their opponents during the last three months.The latest federal filings show Rep. Shelley Moore Capito led the pack for the July to September quarter. The 2nd District Republican raised $403,000. She spent around half that amount. Political action committees provided nearly half her funds. Democratic challenger Howard Swint did not raise enough for a filing.
3rd District Democratic Rep. Nick Rahall raised $290,000. Rahall also spent $1.1 million by tapping his prior balance. His GOP rival, state Delegate Rick Snuffer, amassed $188,000 and spent $250,000.Freshman Republican Rep. David McKinley spent $259,000 after attracting $207,000. The 1st District's Democratic nominee, Sue Thorn, raised more than $53,000 and spent nearly that much.Capito and McKinley each had campaign balances exceeding $1 million.
