Pumpkin drop set at Charleston ballpark

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Pumpkins, not baseballs, are set to fly around a Charleston ballpark. The 14th annual Capital City Pumpkin Drop will be held Thursday at Appalachian Power Park.Students from across the state will use math and science skills to design containers that will protect a pumpkin when it's dropped from a designated height.
Faculty and staff from Bridgemont Community and Technical College will judge pumpkins based on whether they stay intact and how close they land to the target.Prizes will be awarded for project designs and to the top schools in elementary, middle and high school categories. The sponsors say 35 schools from 11 counties are entered. The event is free and open to the public.
