Charleston Town Center reopened its Center Court area Thursday after renovations. A new fountain at Center Court will be turned on Thursday evening.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Charleston Town Center mall officially reopened its Center Court Wednesday morning. The area recently underwent renovations, which included new flooring and carpet, the addition of two technology bars where customers can use and charge electronic devices and a new fountain, among other renovations.Starbucks, which had been closed for a time during the work, gave out free coffee to customers between 10 a.m. and noon Wednesday.Mall officials will place new furniture in Center Court next week. The fountain will be turned on tonight at 5:45 with the arrival of Santa for the Christmas season, marketing director Lisa McCracken said.
Besides the renovations, the mall also unveiled a new logo, interior and exterior banners, McCracken said. Next week the mall will add new portal signs at its Court and Clendenin street entrances, she said."In keeping with the updated look, we felt we needed to update the graphics," McCracken said.
The new fountain is designed to reflect the woods and waters of West Virginia, she said. "It's designed to have low splash and water sounds ... not quite as loud as the former fountain," she said.Up until about 10 years ago, the mall had a three-story fountain in the center court. The fountain was removed because of plumbing issues, McCracken said. The new fountain will allow for additional seating areas and more common areas for guests, she said."We're very excited about the new fountain and we feel everyone will really enjoy it," she said.Renovations at the mall are scheduled to be complete by the end of the month. Mall officials are planning a celebration for the renovations and a kickoff for the center's 30th anniversary Dec. 4.Reach Lori Kersey at firstname.lastname@example.org
