The fundraiser is scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Aladdin Restaurant in Kanawha City."I basically sent it to people who are friends of mine," Carper said Wednesday. "It's an excuse to have a party and see my friends.
"I think it's pretty obvious that it's tongue-in-cheek," he said. "But the grape leaf rolls will be the best."Carper said he didn't have a fundraiser during his re-election campaign, and actually didn't have much of a campaign debt. He said he probably spent more money to pay for the dinner and advertising than for his entire campaign.State Attorney General-elect Patrick Morrisey, who also is holding a fundraiser at the same time tonight, apparently was the inspiration for Carper's fundraiser. Morrisey is seeking to pay down some of the sizable debt he lent his campaign. Carper said he didn't really need to have a fundraiser to pay for his campaign, but was trying to have some fun with the political process."We hope to raise enough to pay for the printing and pay for the shrimp," he said.Reach Rusty Marks at email@example.com or 304-348-1215.
