Charleston CVB, chili cookoff donate to HospiceCare

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau and the World's Championship Chili Cookoff local committee have donated $5,000 to HospiceCare of West Virginia.Chili cooks from around the world attended the three-day chili competition at Charleston's Magic Island in October. In its 45 years, the International Chili Society, which manages and organizes the World's Championship Chili Cookoff, has raised more than $86 million for charitable and nonprofit organizations, according to a news release.
The proceeds donated from the annual event will be used to care for patients who cannot afford basic hospice services.HospiceCare does not deny patients based on their inability to pay. Community fundraising events, like the chili cookoff, provide donations for patients and their families who are not covered by insurance or Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements.
