Man in critical condition after Christmas shooting
HENLAWSON, W.Va. -- A man is in critical condition after a shooting in Logan County on Christmas afternoon.
Logan County sheriff's deputies say Mack Brumfield, 18, shot the man five to six times in the torso following an altercation on Sun Catcher Street in the Henlawson area. The incident happened at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The victim was not named, but police say he is the stepfather of Brumfield's girlfriend.
Brumfield and his girlfriend allegedly had an altercation earlier Tuesday, and she called her aunt for help. The aunt arrived at the residence with the woman's stepfather, police say.
Deputies say a physical altercation erupted between Brumfield and the stepfather. Brumfield's girlfriend told deputies that she grabbed her small son and fled after hearing multiple gunshots. She saw her stepfather leave, covered in blood, and she went to a neighbor's house to call police.
The man was taken to Logan Regional Medical Center for treatment and was later flown to CAMC General Hospital.
Witnesses say Brumfield ran away on foot over a hillside while still carrying the gun, according to police.
Brumfield is an 18-year-old white man. He was last seen wearing a red or maroon hooded sweatshirt and jeans. He has a tattoo that reads "MACK" on his right forearm.
He is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call the Logan County Sheriff's Department at 304-792-8590 or 911 in Logan County.
