Retired W.Va. justice returns to senior status

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Retired state Supreme Court Justice Thomas McHugh has returned to senior status.The court on Tuesday approved McHugh's reinstatement to senior status a week after his retirement.Retired judicial officers who wish to be appointed to serve on senior status must apply for the position.
McHugh served two stints on the court, winning 12-year terms in 1980 and 1992.
He retired in 1997, was appointed to the court in 2009 and was elected the following year to a two-year term to fill the unexpired term of the late Justice Joseph Albright.
