National fishing show to honor slain trooper

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- An upcoming episode of an national outdoor reality TV show will be dedicated to a slain State Police trooper who was an avid fly fisherman and hunter.One episode of "Fly Rod Chronicles with Curtis Fleming" will feature Trooper Eric Workman, said state Commerce Secretary Keith Burdette. The show will air at 6:30 p.m. Saturday on the Outdoor Channel.
Workman and State Police Cpl. Marshall Bailey were fatally shot after responding to a routine traffic stop Aug. 28 near the border of Roane and Clay counties. The suspect later was killed by police gunfire.Friends and colleagues remember Workman, 26, as a warm-water fisherman who was skilled at catching muskellunge fish in the Elk River between Sutton and Charleston. Burdette said the show's production company filmed six 30-minute episodes about waterways in West Virginia, including the Cranberry, Potomac and Greenbrier rivers. Saturday's episode will be dedicated to emergency responders and police officers.On the show, Curtis Fleming, a Bridgeport native, travels the world to find the best hunting and fishing destinations. Season 10 began airing weekly on Jan. 1.
