Service for MLK Day, inauguration to be Monday

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Martin Luther King Jr. West Virginia Holiday Commission will host an ecumenical church service, a march to the Capitol steps and a reception in the West Virginia Culture Center Monday.The ecumenical service will be at Asbury United Methodist Church, located at 501 Elizabeth St. in Charleston's East End, at 8:30 a.m.A march to the Capitol, led by parade marshals and the West Virginia State University ROTC Color Guard, will walk to the Liberty Bell on the Capitol's north plaza for a bell-ringing ceremony between 10:30 and 11 a.m.
A reception will then be held at the Culture Center, where people may also watch presidential inauguration ceremonies on large-screen televisions.Speakers during the church service will include Dr. R. Jenee Walker and the Rev. Ronald English, both of Charleston.Kanawha County Circuit Judge Tod Kaufman will host the bell-ringing ceremony at the Capitol."In the name of world peace," Kaufman said, "West Virginia and America will honor two Nobel Peace Prize winners today, when we will celebrate Martin Luther King Day and President Obama's inauguration."
