CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia's only Abercrombie & Fitch store is closing its doors for the last time on Saturday.The upscale clothing and accessories store for young adults has been located on the Charleston Town Center Mall's second floor since Nov. 15, 2001.Lisa McCracken, marketing director at the mall, said it's up to the shoppers to determine what stores stay."It is a fact that our customers determine who stays and who goes. It's as simple as that," McCracken said. "But as we've seen happen -- whether it has been a restaurant or a store -- if they don't receive support or your patronage or dollars, they can't afford to stay."
The store had more than 80 full- and part-time employees in its first holiday season in the Charleston mall, a store manager said at the time.
The company's international sales increased 37 percent in its fiscal third quarter that ended Oct. 27, according to Abercrombie's investor relations website.U.S. sales increased 9 percent during that same period.Abercrombie is based in New Albany, Ohio, and has more than 1,050 stores across the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia.Hollister, a sister company to Abercrombie & Fitch also in the Town Center Mall, is not closing, an employee at that store said Friday.
