Longtime circuit judge Keadle retires

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A longtime West Virginia circuit judge retired Thursday after swearing in his brother-in-law as a new state senator.Thomas H. Keadle heard cases in Lewis and Upshur counties in the 26th Judicial Circuit. He retired Thursday after swearing in Donald Cookman to the state Senate.Keadle, 75, had been a judge since 1985.
Cookman was chief judge of the 22nd Judicial Circuit covering Hampshire, Hardy and Pendleton counties. He retired last week when Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin appointed him to the state Senate.Cookman is replacing Walt Helmick, who won election as agriculture commissioner in November.
