Kanawha deputies catch alleged Army deserter

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Kanawha County sheriff's deputies on Monday picked up a man who allegedly deserted from the U.S. Army.Capt. Sean Crosier of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department said deputies got a tip that Matthew Jack Kirk, 35, was staying at his parents' home on Long Branch Road in Charleston.Sgt. C.J. Savilla, Cpl. J.S. Cochran and Deputy J.R. Hatfield went to the home at about 5 p.m. Monday and took Kirk into custody without incident, Crosier said.Kirk was being held Tuesday at the South Central Regional Jail, awaiting pickup by Army officials.
