Charleston man charged with robbing his mother

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Charleston man duct-tapped his mother to a chair and stole cash and other items from her early Wednesday, police said.Joshua Lee Holbert, 32, was charged with first-degree kidnapping, second-degree robbery and violating his parole.Shortly after midnight Wednesday, Holbert went to his mother's house along Hardman Drive and demanded money from her so he could repay a drug debt, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
The victim, Patricia Holbert, told police her son became violent and pushed her onto her bed when she refused. He forced her into a chair in the bathroom and duct-taped her hands together, according to the complaint. Patricia Holbert said her son taped her upper torso to the chair before disconnecting the landline and taking her cellphone.Holbert then stole a debit card and an undisclosed amount of cash from her wallet, according to the complaint.The woman eventually was able to free herself and call for help. Police said her wrists were bruised from the tape and covered in adhesive residue.Holbert was arrested without incident and is being held in the South Central Regional Jail without bail. He is on parole for January 2011 convictions in Kanawha County of breaking and entering and forgery.
