CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- With the formation of a new nonprofit organization and a new website in the works, East End Main Street has big plans for 2013.The economic development and preservation-aimed organization recently formed a new business association and will apply for 501(c) (6) certification from the Internal Revenue Service, which will allow it to recruit business members and donations and buy property. Keeley Steele, owner of Bluegrass Kitchen, Tricky Fish and Frutcake, is the new president of the board of directors for its new business association. Steele formerly served as EEMS's vice president. Steele is not the only new leader in the organization. Dickinson Gould, president and owner of Buzz Food Services, was recently elected president of the organization's Board of Directors.Gould replaced Andy Milovich, a former executive with West Virginia Power. Milovich resigned to take a job in Myrtle Beach.Ric Cavender, executive director of EEMS, said he's pleased to have Steele and Gould on board. He, Gould and Steele share a vision of seeing the group succeed, he said."[Gould] gets it," Cavender said. "He owns a large business, he's an East End resident and he has the full vision. He fully understands where we need to go to continue the success we've had. I'm really excited to be working with him."Cavender said the group would be focusing on recruiting businesses to the organization this year and will offer business owners a lot of benefits for their membership. The organization also is developing a quarterly speaker series for business owners. The series will focus on a wide array of subjects pertinent to business owners including proper use of social media, marketing, management, increasing profits and other topics.EEMS's new website will be launched soon, Cavender said."It's going to be a one-stop shop for the East End and the organization," he said. The group also is planning a "Warehouse Walk" event that will feature the businesses in the city's Warehouse District. For more information, visit http://charlestoneastend.com.
